RUBY DOOMSDAY BLOOD AND THUNDER
‘Blood and Thunder’ is the debut single from South London indie-jangle duo Ruby Doomsday. It’s a unique cut that leans into a sound that is at once inspired by The Libertines, nostalgic 80s indie and an eerie, unsettling horror film. The subtle surrealism of their sound is exacerbated by the presence of accordion and glockenspiel, but is brought back down to earth with a barrage of effortlessly memorable melodies. “Our debut single was written to score a rainy apocalyptic fairy tale, observed through the night bus window on a journey home through central London,” they say. “It's a cinematic soundscape, with an accordion breathing like the city and twinkling piano raindrops falling onto Londoners who’ve been pushed to breaking point by the city's fat cats.” The pair are playing at London’s New Cross Inn on May 22nd, 2025. -Dan Peeke
